Mid North Coast tourist operators report last-minute rush to use Dine and Discover NSW vouchers

Mid North Coast tourism operators say they've been hit by a pre-school holiday rush, thanks to a last-minute surge in people cashing in their NSW Dine and Discover Vouchers.

The $25 Dine and $25 Discover vouchers were launched in March 2021 to help businesses stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic, and are due to expire on June 30.

Owner of Port Macquarie's Billabong Zoo Mark Stone said the voucher scheme had been a saviour for the business, but the biggest boost had been in the past week.

"Right at this very moment it is extremely busy, so many people are racing to use the Dine & Discover vouchers," he said.

Landmark gig worker protection agreement struck between Uber and Transport Workers' Union

Gig economy workers could be given fairer wages and guaranteed protections under a landmark agreement struck between Uber and the Transport Workers' Union (TWU).

The in-principle agreement signed yesterday supports the introduction of a minimum earnings "safety net", a mechanism to resolve disputes and the creation of a collective body to represent rideshare and delivery drivers.

Uber Australia managing director Dom Taylor said the agreement balanced the flexibility of gig work with greater protections for drivers.

"What we are trying to do is improve the quality of independent work for rideshare drivers and online food delivery drivers," he said.

Federal Court orders Origin Energy to pay $17 million penalty over breaching hardship obligations

Electricity provider Origin Energy has been ordered by the Federal Court to pay more than $17 million in penalties for breaching its obligations to customers experiencing hardship and payment difficulties.

It is the largest total penalty ever imposed for breaches of the national energy retail law and rules.

Origin admitted that its automated processes for hardship customers resulted in it breaching its hardship obligations on more than 100,000 occasions over four years until October last year.

In total, more than 90,000 customers in New South Wales, the ACT, Queensland, and South Australia were affected.

PARRAMATTA CBD PLANNING PROPOSAL APPROVED AFTER 9 YEARS

 Hi there,

I have not seen any plan take so many years to get prepared. It was a long wait for business owners operating in the Parramatta CBD. However, finally the time has come when the plan was approved by the NSW government. We will now have an expanded CBD with various skyscrapers that will add a new charm to the city. It is incredible to imagine how the face of the region will change after the development takes place. It will create a lot of new jobs and living spaces for the local people. With the growing population, this was a much-needed development. I am glad that it will finally get implemented. To know more about this development, read the article shared below.

Coffs Harbour City Council rejects NSW government's draft master plan for Jetty Foreshore Precinct

The Coffs Harbour City Council has rejected the NSW government's current draft master plan for the city's Jetty Foreshore Precinct.

A motion put forward by the mayor Paul Amos was successful at this week's council meeting, getting up by six votes to three.

The draft master plan for the jetty revitalisation was unveiled last month, with community feedback submissions to close this coming Monday.

Councillor Amos said he believed the plan ignored a majority of residents who had already expressed they wanted to keep as much public open space as possible.

Farmers want compensation for $1.2 billion renewable energy transmission lines across properties

A NSW government promise to invest $1.2 billion for renewable energy transmission over the next ten years has been welcomed by the Nature Conservation Council (NCC), but farmers are worried about the impact on agriculture and how they will be compensated.

NSW Treasurer and Minister for Energy Matt Kean says the Transmission Acceleration Facility will fast-track the Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) needed to replace existing power stations as they close by funding the development stages of transmission and other infrastructure.

"We want to make sure that every family and business across NSW has access to the cheapest and most reliable form of energy," he said.
